Surf Fishing and June Grass

I was planning to be in Navarre this weekend and wanted to get in some surf fishing. Is anyone catching pompano in the surf? Has the June grass showed up early? I can not tell by the web cam if there is much grass in the surf. As you other fisherman know, surf fishing is impossible when June grass/s...

If you want to surf fish, I would do this: 1. Go to Half Hitch Tackle in Navarre and tell them you want a pompano rig. It's a pre-made rig with hooks and swivels. Also purchase a sinker, probably a #2. 2. Get some sand fleas. Raking up fresh fleas is the best. You will have to buy a rake. You can pu...

Sand Fleas

Is anyone raking up sand fleas in the surf right now? I'll be down there in a few days to do some pompano fishing and was wondering if I need to bring my sand flea rake.

Does anyone remember the campground that was located on the sound side of Santa Rosa Island between Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach? I believe it was slightly more closer to Navarre Beach. I often try to pick out along the road of where it use to be, but give up because the terrain has changed so ...

I remember 25 years ago when NAS was celebrating the 75th anniv of naval aviation. They had a huge air show dedicated to the celebration. They had aircraft from far away as Britain perform and celebrities show up (Bob Hope, etc). This year being the 100th anniv, I haven't found an air show at NAS th...

David,

Please let us know when the pompano come in. I'm ready to make a trip over there and cast a line. I'm thinking it may still be a couple of weeks out.

The June grass was still there on Friday. I was in town a couple of days and was planning on doing some surf fishing, but decided against it with all the grass in the water. It's hard to keep it off the line. We went down to Destin on Saturday and got on a party boat to catch some Red Snapper before...

David, Looking at the Florida fishing regulations, I noticed a statement that applies to pompano, redfish, specs, and so on. It reads: "Harvest prohibited by or with the use of any multiple hook in conjunction with live or dead natural bait." What is your interpretation of this? Does it mean you can...

Pomps

David, Where at along the Navarre Beach area have people been catching pompanos? I surf fished some last weekend and didn't have any luck with the pomps. I did, however, catch a couple of good size red's in the surf over the holiday weekend. The wind had the waves breaking way off shore. I was think...
